| Healthy Greene is a community partnership dedicated
to promoting wellness and improving the health and quality of life
for all Greene County residents.

- Health Promotion (Nutrition and Physical Activity): Increase
support and opportunities for community members to engage in healthy
lifestyle behaviors (physical fitness and recreation, and nutrition
and healthy diet) within and across schools, businesses and organizations.
- Injury (Motor Vehicle Injury and Child Passenger Safety): Increase
the public's awareness regarding the high number of deaths and
injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes, and to increase the
use of seat belts among everyone.

1. Walking trail located on the campus of Snow Hill Primary School.
2. Walking for Blue Sticks is an incentive program for the students
and teachers at Snow Hill Primary School. One blue stick is awarded
daily to classes that walk 3 or more laps around the walking trail.
The entire class must participate and walk at least 3 laps. Blue
sticks are turned in to the guidance counselor, and the class
is rewarded with a popcorn party.
3. "Buckle Up, It's the Law" signs have been placed
along the major highways entering Greene County, and "We
Need You, Buckle Up" signs have been placed at each school.
4. Free Child Passenger Safety Seat Clinics are held throughout
the county (approximately 4 times per year).
5. Healthy Greene also serves as Greene County's Local Physical
Activity and Nutrition Coalition.

Heart disease,
cancer, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) are the leading causes of death in Greene County. Unintentional
injuries are also a leading cause of death in Greene County.
Greene County completed their community assessment in 2002
and researched the area of premature mortality (years of potential
life lost before age 75). It was discovered that the leading
contributor to premature mortality for Greene County was unintentional
injuries - followed by cancer (2nd) and heart disease (3rd).
