Chronic Disease/Cancer:
Elementary and Middle school initiative to teach children about
skin cancer and to develop their practice to wear sun block and
hats when outside.
Access to Health Care: By 2006, increase the number of healthcare
providers, including physicians, nurses, dentists, and mental health
providers to at least the state provider to resident ratio.
Childhood Obesity: By 2006, reduce the percent of Macon County
students, grades K-5, with a Body Mass Index 85% or above to 25%
(Baseline: 40.58%, 2003 Macon County School Health Screening Fair
BMI Results)
Community Health: By 2006, increase Macon County residents'
health education/awareness to more efficiently and effectively utilize
the local healthcare system.
Substance Abuse: reduce the prevalence of Macon County adults,
age 18 or older, using any illicit drugs during the past year.
Tobacco Use: By 2006, decrease the number of students, grades
6-8, who ever tried cigarette smoking to 23% (Baseline: 46%, 2002
Macon County YRBSS) and
by 2006, decrease the number of students, grades 9-12, who ever
tried cigarette smoking to 34% (Baseline: 67%, 2002 Macon County
YRBSS)
