| Bringing together concerned citizens, forming partnerships,
to improve the quality of life in Onslow County!

Chronic Disease:
We have a Children's Health Coalition with experts in Pediatric
Asthma, Diabetes, Sickle Cell, ADD/ADHD, HIV/AIDS, and other children's
issues. Our main goal is to educate not only the children but
the parents and school nurses.
Pediatric Asthma Coalition-We have a Pediatric Asthma nurse
that goes to the schools and homes and diagnosis, educate children
and parents, and even provide the meds to those that cannot afford
it.
Healthwatch Committee-Deals with treating and educating
adults and children about diabetes.
Tobacco Awareness Program- educating children and adults
about the hazards of tobacco use. We also have smoking cessation
classes.
Prevention Committee- Educate women and young people about
obesity and find programs that deal with this issue. We also are
involved in the importance of children wearing bicycle helmets
and will be having our 2nd Women's Expo Oct. 2.

- Pediatric Asthma Coaliton-796 children have been referred to
the program since 2001. 150 children are currently cased managed
due to complex issues. 350 children were actively monitored in
34 schools through out Onslow County.

Children's Health Coalition-The collection and assibilation
of chronic illness statistics of Onslow County children 0-17
yrs. of age.
-
Healthwatch-Medication assistance provided $9,250.00 Involvement
of Winner's Circle in the Boys & Girls Club, to provide
healthy snacks.

Economic Development Committee-3 VITA (Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance) Sites were set up and 177 tax returns done with
$267,377.00 in refunds with $117,712.00 of that in EITC. We
then set up an IDA (Individual Development Account) Homeownership
program for 20 participants- 4 of those coming from the VITA
program.

Tobacco Awareness Coalition-Onslow County Schools went SMOKE-FREE
as of July 2004!! Did presentations to 13,486 students in 2003.

- Belgrade Community, a National Model Community-based
Committee, recognized by the National Association of County and
City Health Officials (NACCHO) for accomplishing safe housing
and improved health conditions, now in the process of constructing
a Community Building
