To advocate,
guide and assist Orange County in planning and implementing health
care strategies to promote healthy lifestyles, improve health status
and prevent premature death and injury for all residents in the
county regardless of age, race, income or educational level.

Health Promotion/Nutrition
& Physical Activity
- Development and implementation of a model employee health and
wellness program being piloted with Orange County employees, to
be duplicated with other major employers in Orange County.
Injury/ Child
Abuse & Domestic Violence- Creation of a Professional Training
Series on recognition and response to domestic violence and child
abuse and a monthly Brown Bag Lunch Seminar on similar topics.
Mental Health/Children and Adolescents - Formation of a community
network to prepare for mental health reform, explore school-based
mental health programs and share services information with the community.
Access to
Health Care - Formation of a working group to address health
care access issues including lack of insurance, cost of care, transportation,
language and cultural barriers

1. In partnership
with NAMI Orange County, the Mental Health Association and other
community partners, are bringing a photographic exhibit entitled
"Nothing to Hide; Mental Illness in the Family" to Orange
County from mid-September to mid-November 2005 for display in
multiple locations and with numerous surrounding events to raise
awareness about mental health issues, services and to reduce stigma
about mental illness.
2. Development and distribution of a listing of mental health
providers who specialize in children and adolescent issues.
3. Development and distribution of a countywide map of all public
recreation areas.
4. Organized a Family Fun and Fitness Day to encourage physical
activity in October 2003 that 200 people attended.
5. Provided micro-grants to 6 community-based organizations for
small health projects in 2002-2003.
6. Received a Health and Wellness Trust Fund Commission Grant
for 2003-2006 for $232,000 for youth tobacco prevention in both
Orange County school systems.
