The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized

CDC serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease
prevention and control, environmental health, and health promotion
and education activities designed to improve the health of the people
of the United States.
Healthy People 2010
Healthy People 2010 is the prevention agenda for the Nation.
It is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify
the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish
national goals to reduce these threats.
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
The NIH is one of eight health agencies of the Public Health
Services which, in turn, is part of the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services. Comprised of 27 separate components, mainly
Institutes and Centers, NIH has 75 buildings on more than 300 acres
in Bethesda, MD. From a total of about $300 in 1887, the NIH budget
has grown to more than $20.3 billion in 2001.

Office of Public Health

The Office of Public Health and Science (OPHS) is under the
